Some Catalytic Converter Installation Tips

It is very important to have your car cool down completely.

Make sure the stock cat has cooled down all the way before you start removal.

GM’s bolt pattern is irregular and therefore the upper gasket will only fit properly one way.

There is an O2 extender included with your cat. This O2 extender is to be placed in the front pipe at the O2 port. The oxygen sensor is threaded into this extender. This takes the O2 sensor out of the direct stream of the exhaust system.

Installing Your New Catalytic Converter

1. Unplug the manifold oxygen sensor at the electrical connector end.

2. Remove the three 10ml bolts that hold the manifold shield on and remove the shield.

3. Remove the three 15ml nuts that secure the cat to the manifold.

4. Support the exhaust system.

5. Remove the oxygen sensor from the front pipe with a 7/8 or 22ml wrench.

6. Remove the bolt from the cat flange to the hanger bracket.

7. Remove 15ml nuts from the converter to the front pipe.

8. Take the stock cat out.

9. Support the exhaust system.

10. Make sure the manifold is clean from any debris.

11. Install the converter to manifold using the flat gasket provided. Tighten evenly.

12. Re-install the manifold shield using the stock bolts.

13. Plug the manifold oxygen sensor connector back in.

14. Install bolts from cat to hanger bracket.

15. Tighten the front pipe to cat connection.

16. Put the O2 extender into the front pipe O2 hole.

17. Thread the oxygen sensor into the extender.
