Description
The Solo team worked hard and are happy to say that we have achieved an exhaust kit that works great on both the V8 standard and the automatic. This exhaust kit offers a deep, rich, raw American muscle sound on the outside while being non-invasive on the inside. Fierce on the outside, tame on the inside as we say.
With this exhaust kit, we have conquered the inherent trouble areas of the V8 Camaro. Sixth gear cruising is no problem with the 6-speed and it’s just as smooth on the highway as it is in town with the automatic. The octave bump between 8cyl and 4cyl on the automatic is comfortable as well. Our J-Pipes take care of all these trouble areas on both cars.
On top of all this, the “Decel Burble” created by this axle back exhaust kit on both the V8 standard and automatic produces the raw, mean, basey, burble of the exhaust on deceleration that is sure to make you smile.
Recommendation: Axle-Back vs Cat-Back
If you’re looking for a wonderful exhaust note and you’re not interested in future modifications (high flow converters, headers, intake etc.) the Axle-Back exhaust kit is definitely a great choice for you. For future modifications to your V8 Camaro, the Cat-Back exhaust is the choice as it allows the exhaust to take advantage of the modifications by eliminating the stock restrictive mid-section. Our Mach XL with J-Pipes (Cat back for L99 Camaro Auto) or our Mach X (Cat back for LS3 Camaro Standard) exhaust kits have a slightly deeper, richer tone than the V8 Axle Back with J-Pipes; however the axle back has more decal burble.

I got one of these kit installed on my SS 6M . I did it myself in 1.5 hours with tools picked up and ready for start up.
It sounds very nice !!!! Went for ride and take off is great, nice and calm when at cruise. Took it out on interstate 65-75 and NO drone. Just what I wanted, nice sound without drone. It has quite a bit of decell gurgle especially when you down shift. I like it very much.

I’d sign up for a set, but it would end up costing me around $38,000. On the other hand, being able to hear the Solo Symphony Orchestra perform everyday might make a worthwhile investment.

Well… I just got back from Solo Performance in Mississauga where I spent the day with Jeff and his crew as they tested and tweaked their Axle-back system.
I drove there with my XXXXX Cat-back system but that’s not what’s on the car now! It’s Solo’s system!!! Unbelievable difference. Someone asked earlier whether the test car had headers….no…..but it sure sounds like it does now!!!
There is no conventional drone at all after they worked their magic tuning their J-Pipes. With the L99, still with the factory tune, the AFM/DOD effects are still present but the tone is not nearly as offensive as with the XXXXX system. In all likelihood I’ll opt for tuning the AFM/DOD option out for gears 1-4 as others have done. Anyone interested in this product will NOT be disappointed!
The car won’t be gleaming like all those currently sitting under their covers right now (my car is a daily driver and we had some snow this morning and the roads were a mess) but it’s the sound you’re going to want to hear! We also put on their MACH-XL Cat-back system with J-Pipes, and you’ll hear clips of that also. With both set-ups the interior was very quiet, unlike outside the car when you stand on it!
The tone is deep and rich. I just hope that the clips posted will do the system justice, as I know that some sound clips do not necessarily give an accurate representation.
All I can say is WOW… Best 1/2 tank of gas I’ve burned in a long time !!!!!
